This is just testament of what I have in store tomorrow for myself.. have to add a 110 line in my house for an air conditioner.. Meanwhile, I was also thinking.. imagine had all those lines fell on the people as they were giving the engineer the piñata treatment? |

Don't you have circuit breakers where you live, one's that you can switch off manually, thus disconnecting mains electricity to part of your house? It's actually obligatory here, and makes any electrical work a lot less stressful.

I did a several electrical panel upgrades for some house flips... You have to call the power company to secure the main power to the house, after the panel has been inspected, the power is restored. There is no shut off from the main supply to the house that you can do manually... At least its like that here where I live in Southern Cali...
