Re: Syria: Brutal Beheading As Man Has Head Twisted Off
Although I do agree with your comments almost entirely. I think that a large part of the reason you do not see Christians doing these sorts of things is because most of the countries that a dominated by christianity do not have religious laws ruling the land. These beheadings take place in countries that don't have laws against beheading provided the person violated an Islamic law and deserved to be beheaded. And the countries are not equipped well enough to deal with large terrorist groups like this. In Western culture, Muslims don't normally behead people anymore than Christians do. Its because we have LAWS that are mostly separated from religion and usually don't provide any special priveledges for specific religions. Although, there is the occasional "moderate muslim" in North America that decides his faith in Allah takes precedent over his freedom, and honourably murdours his wife and daughters to appease Allah. So Islam DEFINATELY has a more violent influence over it's followers than christianity does. Regardless of similarities in the violence in the bible. |

Re: Syria: Brutal Beheading As Man Has Head Twisted Off
As Martano666 said, it has a lot to do with the sort of separation of church and state mentality than the religion itself. The Bible and Quran for example have far more parallels than many people seem to think. Hell the Virgin Mary and Jesus are mentioned far more (and in a VERY positive light) in the Quran than they are in the Bible. When a government bases it's laws in religion, extremists have more freedom to do twisted shit. If our government allowed religious idiots (not all religious people are idiots, I just mean the idiots specifically) to do what they wanted, people like Westboro Baptist Church wouldn't just be protesting funerals and shit. They'd be doing this sort of nonsense as well. There's a good reason government and religion, and law and religion, should always stay separate. Religion should never be permitted to even slightly influence law, education, or governing. When people start to wonder why, places like these are what you should refer them to. Books written by the hands of men with these sorts of mentalities many, many centuries ago, have no business influencing behavior in the modern world, and these extremists are a prime example of why. |
