Re: Political Leader/lawyer Killed by Hitmen in a Restaurant
Gimlet, this is a pretty fair and balanced technical paper on technologies in this area. Biomaterials and Advanced Technologies for Hemostatic Management of Bleeding . Quikclot has its supporters and its detractors, but I personally advocate its use especially the newer generation impregnated with a mineral that accelerates clotting ability but creates less potential issues in terms of exothermic reactions.

that "lawyer" and "political leader" looks like a 10-year-old at a carnival...she could have been a serious contender for the next US presidency

If that's available it would be 1st layer of damage control.. then apply battle dressings on top of it to help control the bleeding. Old skool method if no quick clot or dressing available is to pack it with dirt.. the cleanest you can muster of course... at least it will clot.. of course this method is only recommended under the absolute worst case scenario |

This will sound like I'm setting up for a punchline Doc, but I remember hearing about case in the field where a medic apparently used a tampon to plug a bullet hole before transporting and it worked a treat ...... it could just be apocryphal tale, but no reason it wouldn't work I guess ?? |

Tampon in a bullet hole would absolutely work. Tampons are made to soak up blood so it actually ideal. it's a matter of plugging it just enough to control hemorrhage. You can take roll Gauze and do the same technique.. once you can get the patient stable on ABC's. Transport to next echelon of care.. |

Kerosene clots the blood on contact and it doesn't sting, that could be used as a last resort to avoid hipovolemic shock.
