Re: More Gruesome Beheadings (Mexico, May 14, 2012)

Exactly. Though, the answer to this problem is definately not more violence. No matter what size army were to take on the cartels, there would always be some survivors that continue the business going and continue to grow it back to full size. -AND- it doesn't seem practical in any way to devote a portion of military to permanently focus on cartels specifically. Not when it is an unbeatable problem.

Although legalizing marijuana would definately have an impact on the cartels, I think it would just encourage them to focus on other drugs that are still profitable and illegal. So unless recreational drugs are fully legalized, I am not sure if the cartels will ever be stopped. There is too much money to be made for everyone to just stop doing it.
Good post, I totally agree.
I really don't know what alternative there is other than legalization.... The whole prohibition thing has proven time and time again it just doesn't work.
These Cartels basically run Mexico... Judges, Politicians etc..... Zeta's are even former military special forces, that's scary.
I dunno, but I couldn't help but think that any time you see someone doing a rail, it came through one of these fucking maniacs.... and they profited from it.... sober thought for sure.

Re: More Gruesome Beheadings (Mexico, May 14, 2012)

I live in Mexico. This is happening all the time. The thing is, if you aren't involved it that scene or lifestyle, you'll really only read and hear about it in the media. It doesn't happen to citizens or innocents unless it's accidental. It's not something you see walking down the street every day either.

In fact, some of the cartels are trying to act more politically by appealing to the public as being "on their side". Protecting them from the real bad guys and corrupt government. If their enterprise is converted into a "cause" it gains a certain legitamacy that goes beyond drug trafficking. In some communities, the cartels are actually considered a benevolent presence. Building parks, schools, clinics, even churches. Unfortunately, that's much more than the government has ever done for them. So who ya gonna love? It's not quite as the US media portrays it.

It does seem, however, that Mexico now leads the world in exporting grisly execution videos. This forum in particular ought to be thankful to Mexico for that at least.
