i didnt even see him struggle. was he already dead or sedated? i know hes held down but usually they breathe, twitch, his chest didnt even move.

Beheading shouldn't involve allowing suffering. They should just get it over with as soon as they stick the blade in-- might as well start cutting from the nape rather than the throat. Psh, letting the guy live through his own blood-spew... the behead-ers personal preference, I'd assume.
