Burning to death is perhaps the most painful way to die. As the nerve endings are destroyed, fresh nerve material further into the branch is exposed to the advancing heat.

If there was no oxygen to breathe in, there would also be no flames. People on fire can and do scream.

Someone that far engulfed in flames would not have enough oxygen left in their lungs to scream or be capable of inhailing any.... The heat alone from that fire would be enough to cutt off the oxygen source let alone the actual fire.
