That's like saying that repealing prohibition back in 1933 would end organized crime in the United States. Guess what? It didn't.

Just like all criminal organizations, most Cartels have their fingers in a lot of pies. 'Legalizing drugs' would just cause them to shift their focus elsewhere.

You have a point. But I don't think you realize how much of their funding comes from Marijuana alone. It's their primary fund source, by FAR. You are right, though about the fact that organized crime will focus on other things, but cutting their main source of funds will greatly reduce their capabilities.
Not to mention that ALL drugs should be decriminalized anyways, and marijuana should be fully legalized for recreational purposes.
