To the people saying “what about your kids?”, you don’t get it. It’s Morocco. It’s a Muslim country. She has no rights to her kids. She knows it. This is a very religious country where women are seen as property, or sexuality slaves, basically. The entire society there is set up against her. She can’t just divorce her husband and go about her life as a single mom with her kids. It simply doesn’t work that way. She knows that no matter what she does, her husband will influence the children more than she can. She has no right to leave with them. Maybe -a huge, suicidally risky maybe- she can get away on her own. The law doesn’t support her taking the kids. She - and they- are basically property of the husband. Maybe she knew that no matter what she did, no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t counter the effect of her husband, and his family, and whatever they were brainwashing her kids to believe. Maybe she thought if she did this, someday, her kids would hear about it, and know that she believed in something different than the BS forced on them. So much so, she was willing to die for it. Maybe she though that would affect her children more than anything she could teach them, under constant scrutiny of her husband and his family. So many people on this site are western, and they consider every scenario in the way they think it would happen in the USA. People are judging this woman for the choice she made, picturing a woman i their own community doing it, and judging them for not accepting all the available help that would be available to them. I have to say again, Morocco is a Muslim country that gives women very few rights, and basically none when it comes to custody. She couldn’t just take the kids and leave. She’s basically property, same as them.
