This instantly reminded me of Jabberwocky, Terry Gilliam's first solo film. An impoverished character ends up lopping off his feet so he can get alms from the passing crowd and he's all cheery about it.  |

he cut them off for a reason....gangren, rot, infection......you can tell by looking at his other limbs..his fingers are kinda black
