Re: The Dawood Military Hospital Scandal
You can't win with Won't Win people. If you gave them a Rolls Royce, they would soon smash it into a tree. The conditions that you saw in those photos are the very conditions to which the Afghanis are committed. It's what they want. No matter what they may say...this is what they do. They have been this way for 1,000+ years. |

Re: The Dawood Military Hospital Scandal
This treatment of patients gets to me more than the gore & beheadings. It's their job to take care of their patients - they should get equal treatment as punishment. Disgusting.

Re: The Dawood Military Hospital Scandal
The whole situation in Afghanistan bring back ghosts of Vietnam. US pouring money and material into a government so corrupt that supplies were sold into a black market often before they got off the boat and aid went into the pockets of corrupt officials. We never could have won in Vietnam because the population hated the government and the people wanted anything different from the crooks we were supporting. The "right" of public officials to extort and steal from the people was a tradition that went back thousands of years and we were too dumb to realize that winning had to start with changing the government to something the people would support. The same situation exists in Afghanistan, and like Vietnam the government does not want to war to be won, the end of the war would be the end of US. What good is an open license to steal if the only people to steal from are poverty stricken peasants? The Taliban got into power because the people thought anything would be better than what they had. We drove out the Taliban then reconstructed a government of the same crooks the people had already tossed out. It would seem we are unable or unwilling to learn from history. |

Re: The Dawood Military Hospital Scandal
I hate when people with a political agenda try and twist a story. The truth is that this was an Afghan hospital run by Afghans. To say anything more, is either speculation or flat out lies!

Re: The Dawood Military Hospital Scandal
And your evidence? Other than the desire to see simple evil in the US? I saw Iraqi insurgents receive medical care before the US soldiers in the same firefight. I saw Afghans show up at US medical facilities with wounds received fighting the coalition - and get treated. By the way - it isn't just the US trying to do a good thing to people who do not want a good thing. British, Italian, French soldiers are dying as well. Unfortunately you have a couple of cities (Kabul, Khandahar...) but the rest of the country is used to poverty, wearing open plastic shower shoes in the winter snow and forging their own existence. Throw in the tribal dynamics and yes - it is a big fucking mess. Regardless, don't come at us with your "US doesn't take care of the enemy wounded." While we are at it....your avatar? Really? What does that mean to you? If it is a reference to the "White Wolves" of the Balkans conflict, then I already know where you are coming from.... |
