Re: US Navy Helicopter Decapitation

Fact: Blades will be lower at the front of a helicopter versus the left and right, hence why Soldiers enter and exit from those directions.

He can't! He can only criticize but not produce. He's a loser, tho.

Not to worry Zeb. You can't take anyone named "rigidorgydivider" seriously.

Re: US Navy Helicopter Decapitation

The ship is infact a Perry class FFG. The landing gear is fine. The helicopter looks to be properly secured in the starboard RAST. These ships have a port and starboard RAST with a two helo hangers.
I had a friend that lost three fingers to the blades of an H-60. HSL-42 out of Mayport.
The most likely thing that happened is the helicopter was ondeck shutting down. Once the rotation of the blades slows to the point that they can apply the rotor brake there are these things called droop stops which are supposed to fall into place to stop the blades from drooping down. When the rotor blades start up they are supposed to drop out of place. This gives the blades leeway and they are not rigidly in place when spinning. If the droop stops do not engage properly the blades can fall down to approximately neck height.
Since I posted my original story I found out through another shipmate that this Chief died because the pilot accidentally bumped the rotor stick forward while the aircraft was secured. (Chocks and Chains), thus causing the forward blades to dip to 5 ft. while the chief entered the rotor arc. He entered from the front., (Mistake) and this is a 1 in 1,000 chance happening. He should have rounded the deck toward the shack and then entered from the side. Complacency caused this incident. Clear as day.
