Brazil -where human life has NO perceived value. Had Brazil's people been Protestant and allowed family planning devices, such disrespect for the dead might not have happened...

Over 20 yrs ago, hubby and I were out riding our bikes in Long Beach, CA, and we saw a HUGE dumpster overflowing with nice furniture and other interesting stuff. There were a lot of other people trashpicking, so we stopped to see what was up. We were amazed that what we saw was not trash, but contents of an old person's home.....We began to look in the dumpster along with about 7 other peope. Then a man came running out from a house and told everyone to go away, there would be an estate sale in a few days, and he'd call the cops if he saw anyone else rummage in the dumpster. Well, times were tough, and we were into treasure hunting and trashpicking (lol), and having garage sales to resell things. So hubby and I went back late at night with the car. We filled that cadillac with everything from suits to antique kitchen gadgets, to WW1 mementos. We excitedly made a few trips back home to empty the car, and went back for more. The deeper hubby dug, the more cool stuff there was. After going from one end of the dumpster to the other (it was a really long one) He tunneled under all the stuff in there, and found a bunch of antique dental equipment. We even found his ID and driver's license. We were getting to know this dead guy pretty well...How sad! Then, my husband found a skull!! In fact, he found what looked like a whole skeleton. It was all scattered in the bottom of the dumpster in pieces, so hubby just took the skull. Not realizing how cool it actually was to own a skull, (haha) I gave it to my macabre brother, who still has it to this day. The skull was in perfect condition and had every tooth intact. We guessed the Dr. must have had it for a long time, as it is now illegal to possess, buy, or sell human bones, according to ebay. The ones you see nowadays are made of acrylic and look real--nearly impossible to tell the difference. We kept some of the stuff, and sold most of it by holding a garage sale a few weekends. We made a few thousand dollars, and I still have some of the Dead Man's Dumpster stuff. End of story; Goodnight, children!
haha
Great story - but you should tell your brother to hand the skull over to the authorities along with a statement from you of where it came from - LE doesn't take the possesion of human remains lightly, and it's best for him not to end up imprisoned while they do a lengthy investigation into whether he was hiding the remains of a murder victim or such (by cooperating and acting proactively, he'll avoid having them take preemptive, justifiably paranoid steps if they discover it on their own.)

Holy piss!!!

At first I was just gonna say that once something is put in a dumpster or in the trash and set out for the garbage man, it's no longer anyone's property. It's up for grabs and dumpster diving is legal. I've done it, too. I wonder if the guy who yelled at you guys was responsible for a murder??

I would have notified the police though. It would be cool to have human bones, but they could have aided in an investigation or alerted the police to a murderer and ultimately someone's incarceration.

Noooooo, you guys, it was a MEDICAL grade speciman! lol...the dead man's dumpster contained the belongings of a dentist, professor, WW1 survovor, etc. Not HIM or his remains, hahaha.
LOL...sorry, I guess being a gore site, I should have clarified the fact that it wasn't a stinky brown reeking skull with tendons still attached! ....Snow white, clean perfection, and all teeth present. Shit....then again, so??? It coulda been from a murder victim cured & boiled in bleach for all I know.

BTW, it actually IS illegal to trashpick, but I don't care. I still would do it today if I saw an enticing enough thing poking out! um...ahem, yeah!

In 1988, a law was passed called CA vs Greenwood that states that abondoned trash is subject to search.

CAVEAT: My story occured in the year 1985, prior to California vs Greenwood.
However, good to know in the event I am discovered dumpster diving and ordered to leave or the police will be called. (must remember.....Ca vs greenwood, ca vs greenwood, ca vs greenwood, ca vs greenwood!!)
Yay, license to be a trashpicking derelict and get a way with it legally!

Yea I didn't think of that. If it was illegal then I'd be calling the cops every Monday night. People stop their cars in front of my house and go through my garbage. Not a big deal, but my shit's actually GARBAGE. Like, banana peels, used cat litter, etc. . . It's irritating but legal so whatever. I prefer to dumpster dive at flea markets after everyone's gone. People don't feel like dragging what they don't sell home, so they'll leave it. I went to take a 6ft tall mirror one day and almost got fucking shot by some fat bitch-like she needed the mirror. It wasn't even hers-she was just too lazy to set it aside so she just kept an eye on it while she sold her shit. I went to take it and she's screaming, "That's MY mirror!" I'm like, "It's in the trash in the lot beside yours. . . " and the fight was on. She actually insulted my being skinny, like what the fuck does that have to do with anything?! I hate it when you get into a legit argument and the other person comes out of left-field with some dumb shit degrading your character that has nothing to do with absolutely anything.

Ok, I'm done. Sorry.
