If they mentioned a piece of wood to secure something I would guess he had the dump body up and was working on it when the block gave out and the bed came down and crushed him. It's obvious the ambulance crew know he is already beyond help as there are no IV's or any signs of attempts to help the man in the back of the ambulance. Dead at the scene.
