I understand where you're coming from with your post and I do agree with the fact that captive animals will most likely struggle to survive back out in the wild, but that's kind of my point... bringing animals into captivity in the first place is where we fuck up as humans. I'm no crazy animal welfare activist, but I do care a lot about animals as I do for humans... but it's impossible to ignore how illogical it is for us to keep another species in an unnatural environment, then complain when it acts like it would in the wild :lol: What the hell do we expect?

Breeding certain animals and raising them in captivity in the name of protecting endangered species is another tricky issue, but again, it raises the question of whether or not those animals would be endangered if it weren't for humans destroying the environment and their habitats. We aren't the brightest bunch of creatures, really :P

As for having to kill this elephant after crushing it's carer... we had a captive elephant nearly crush a zoo keeper to death here in Australia not long ago. The elephant wasn't killed for what it did. In fact, the zoo keeper defended the elephant in the media, stating that the elephant didn't mean to harm and was just acting as any baby elephant would in testing it's own strength. She reminded us that elephants, like most animals, probably don't realise their strength compared to us humans. A few tonnes versus 50 or so kilograms is a considerable difference lol. All it would take is a baby elephant to lean against a tree to accidentally squash someone to death without even noticing.

Sad for all involved, nevertheless.
