LOS ANGELES -- Two people who allegedly tried to steal a catalytic converter from a vehicle were arrested after leading police on a chase on the eastbound Ventura Freeway to the Eagle Rock area, where their GMC pickup crashed.

The crash occurred about 6:30 a.m. at the transition to the southbound Glendale Freeway, said California Highway Patrol Officer Anthony Martin.

After the pickup truck crashed, a man got out of the passenger side and ran across freeway lanes, chased on foot by a police officer.

The suspects were being chased by Los Angeles Police Department officers, Martin said.

LAPD Officer Julianne Sohn said the suspects were wanted for trying to steal a catalytic converter from a vehicle about 15 minutes before the crash.

What a jackass, all that for a catalytic converter. Makes you wonder the nesesity of the police for chasing him as well. I can only imagine the backlash that would have caused if this idiot would have killed someone during the chase, all for a catalytic converter
