SWAT team arrests fugitive couple jumping from window

Police say the suspects were riding in an SUV on Interstate 15 Sunday afternoon when they were pulled over for a traffic stop. When officers discovered they had an outstanding warrant from Davis County, the suspects got back in the SUV and drove away.

After a short police chase, the suspects drove through a fence, jumped from the SUV and ran into an apartment building near the Southern Utah University campus. The man and woman holed up inside the apartment, prompting a Cedar City SWAT team to respond.

After the apartment building was evacuated and SWAT members kicked in the door, the suspects jumped out of a window. They were arrested immediately by police officers.

The suspects are Carl Jon Racker, 33, and his girlfriend, Shae Monique Kley, 21. They are charged with a number of crimes, including burglary, criminal trespassing, criminal mischief, evading police and some drug-related charges.

Authorities say the apartment Racker and Kley broke into was rented by four college women, who were on break at the time and away from the home.
