I would suggest that we are in fact looking at two lives here. The skull itself was one person, most likely a prominent Monk maybe even the elder who looked after and taught the carver who would undoubtedly be another monk and his responsibility would have been to look after his elder even after death and by carving these intricate religious into the skull would ensure the elder would be accepted into the afterlife with increasing importance both here on earth as those at the monastery would surely use the skull as a great religious icon, before it was taken by some thieving SOB who cared not for the religious parts and saw the intrinsic monetary value or the look what I have and you dont rich lords of western lands.... |
