Re: Can You Identify This Insect?
Thank you. Yes that looks the same except in a more mature stage. That link says to leave them be as they kill the earworm that infests corn. I don't have any corn tho. It's odd, i have lived here for 35 years and have never seen them before. |

Re: Can You Identify This Insect?
There are lots of bugs people don't see much. I was 30 when a neighbor was smacked in the head by a flying mole cricket. He showed us before taking it up to the college where a professor said a person could go a lifetime and never see one. I have a few photos of it but can never ever get them to load here for some reason. They're cute. Wheel bugs are another elusive insect, saw a little bitty baby one a few days ago. They're neat. |

Re: Can You Identify This Insect?
As a child I used to collect insects in jars and study them. Whether from the garden, under the floorboards or in the woods, I was fascinated by all the different kinds I could find. I'm 26 now and still sometimes come across insects I've never seen before. I imagine there must be millions of species of insects. Fascinating stuff.

Re: Can You Identify This Insect?
That is one fearsome looking beast of a cricket! I've never seen one of those things before but that is an impressive specimen! After a bit of research it looks like this is a Splay-Footed Cricket (or Schizodactylus) which apparently gets it's name from the paddle type things on it's feet. They are native to Asia and those unusual feet help them to get around the sandy habitats they live in. Imagine finding one of those crawling around the house! |
