Kiss Nightclub Fire: Pictures of the 245 Dead in Brazil Nightclub Fire
In the early morning of January 27, 2013, a tragedy struck the city of Santa Maria in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The Kiss nightclub, which was hosting a freshers' ball for students from the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), became the scene of one of the deadliest fires in Brazilian history. The majority of the victims were young, between the ages of 18 and 30, and the catastrophe claimed 242 lives and left at least 630 people with injuries. The fire started when the band Gurizada Fandangueira, who was performing at the event, used a pyrotechnic device similar to a signaling flare. The device accidentally ignited the flammable acoustic foam on the nightclub's ceiling, causing the fire to spread rapidly. The situation was exacerbated by the fact that the club had only one main entrance and exit, which led to a deadly crowd crush as panic-stricken attendees tried to flee the burning building. According to Colonel Guido Pedroso de Melo from the Rio Grande do Sul Fire Department, the front door of the club was locked, which trapped the victims inside and contributed to the high number of casualties. The lack of emergency exits and the locked main door created a fatal combination that made it nearly impossible for many to escape the inferno. |

That is tragic. What a horrible way to go. Maybe pyrotechnics shouldn't be used indoors? This isn't the first night club fire they caused.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...rformance.html Based on first reports, appears to be like the Station nightclub fire in Rhode Island USA, with fireworks igniting acoustic material on stage. Which goes to show, more people should visit gore sites like Documenting Reality to learn to prevent deaths. On DR, we learned of the horrors of flammable acoustic material and indoor fireworks. We also learn to lock our car doors when ******* are about, and carry firearms for protection. |

Immediately reminded me of the nightclub fire here in Rhode Island. A lot more people dead and injured! Ouch. |

I thought of that too. Didn't it start the same way? Is that the nightclub that had exits locked so people couldn't escape? Or am I thinking of another one?

Re: Kiss Nightclub Fire: Pictures of the 245 Dead in Brazil Nightclub Fire
There were 4 exits, but as pyrotechnics set ignited flammable sound insulation foam on fire, most people headed for the front door through which they had entered, most of the victims were found there indeed Another similar incident occurred at República Cromañón nightclub where 194 people were killed. |

Maybe someone can download and post the second video. The bodies appear intact with no soot / smoke on them. Maybe there were many crushed and asphyxiated in a push to exit the club.
