Death Pictures From The Bali Bombings 2002
I noticed there wasn't anything about Bali, but other terrorist attacks on the thread. As an Aussie, Bali was massive for us as a lot of us were on holidays there when the bombs went off (its just above our country and a popular tourist destination). 88/202 people killed were Aussies. On October 12, 2002, a devastating terrorist attack in the tourist district of Kuta on the Indonesian island of Bali resulted in the deaths of 202 people, including many foreign nationals, and injured over 240 others. The attack, one of the deadliest in Indonesian history, involved the detonation of three bombs, targeting popular nightspots frequented by tourists. The first bomb, a small device, exploded outside the U.S. consulate in Denpasar, causing minimal damage. Almost simultaneously, a suicide bomber detonated a vest inside Paddy's Pub, a busy nightclub in Kuta. Moments later, a massive car bomb exploded outside the Sari Club, located across the street. The explosions caused extensive destruction and ignited massive fires that engulfed nearby buildings. Victims of the bombings included tourists from more than 20 countries, with the highest number from Australia. The attack shocked the international community and had a profound impact on Bali's tourism-dependent economy. Investigations led to the identification of the militant group Jemaah Islamiyah, an Islamist terrorist organization with links to Al-Qaeda, as the perpetrators. The bombings were seen as a response to Western support for the United States' War on Terror and Australia's role in the liberation of East Timor. |

Incredibly important, horrific attack that has maybe been unfairly overshadowed because of all the crazy shit going down back then. What an unbelievable tragedy - and the scope is so massive it's ridiculous. My admiration and utmost sympathy for every victim, living or deceased. Awesome post, dude, I'd basically forgotten about this.
