Re: Woman Choked Boyfriend For Visa (to Stay in Country)
Perhaps you've seen it differently. From personal experience, I can tell you that women have it much better in the divorce system and that women have much, much, much better chance of getting help and support- legal, social, emotional, financial- than men when it comes to domestic violence. Sure there are different cases on both sides but please look at the statistics for child custody cases, men get fucked over most of the time in this and many other regards. There is a huge, huge double standard in this respect. As for innocent until proven guilty, again I have to disagree... most domestic violence cases involve two parties both being abusive to each other but upon initial review the man is looked at with much more suspicion than the woman. Compare Men's Domestic/Family Abuse Shelter to the amount of Women's Shelters there are... its almost an obvious evidence of the bias. Also, when people say "abuse", most minds shift to think of it in physical or sexual terms only, and because men have more physical strength, they bear the brunt of cynicism. But women can be just as abusive as men and I've known women who have not only emotionally or verbally abused their men but have beaten them, smashed lightbulbs and mirrors on them, given them stitches, etc. And this is largely overlooked both socially and in the legal system... men see it as embarrassing to complain about something like that, just like women do but perhaps in a different and stronger way, i.e. they fear public emasculation. |
