i suppose the reason i ask is because i am in love with animated shows and, while im not a vet, i have told my wife that if i were to be buried (which i dont plan on having done), i would love to have a cartoon character as a headstone.... my family would see it and it would mean a lot to them because it was something i loved in life. if i were a vet, it would likely be a cartoon character in uniform (likely an effigy of Brock Samson in uniform)
Brock Samson is beast

I have to agree with Azi on this. I also think Blewy had the best idea, put a normal headstone at the grave and use the Spongebob one for a memorial stone in their yard.
Arlington is cracking down, too. People were putting up "arts and crafts" style pics, crosses, hearts and other reminders of their loved ones. They were also leaving toys, stuffies, clothing and so on. While I am so grateful for the sacrifice of their loved one, a cemetery isn't a scrapbook.

You have to draw the line somewhere. I think the cemetery in the Spongebob story is afraid this may become a trend and all of sudden you've got Disneyland, Universal Studio's and Sea World, while you're visiting your dearly departed's grave.

I think some people are overlooking the fact that cemetaries are a business. Maybe the owner feels as though he would lose business by allowing his high standard of decency and respect to drop. People like me would never burry our loved ones in a cartoon theme park. Allow one cartoon headstone to go up, or any other inappropriate marker, and it turns the cemetary into an outdoor arthouse.

Well said!

I change my mind, I would like Wolverine in my tombstone instead

I didn't think of it that way...I was only thinking of the fact that they had prior approval and then said approval was taken away. I never thought about it being disrespectful to veterans. Hmmmmm....

BINGO!

I didn't even think of that

Times change though. I laugh when I watch old b&w movies and shows.

Everyone smoked and drank and looked 20-25 years old than their stated ages.

Everyone had fresh coffee at any time of the day or night! 3 AM on a weekday? Have to get up for work in a few hours? No problem!

If you had a problem, you were sedated or you drank, no matter what it was!

Re: **Update**Iraq Veteran's SpongeBob Gravestone Removed

To my knowledge, at least in the US, you cannot just bury people wherever you feel like it.

Every now and then, when people do renovations on their lawns, they find a body and tombstone, usually part of the family they may have never knew existed.

I think a big deal is being made out of a family's simple wish.

I doubt very much that everyone will want a cartoon or something on their tombstones.

I'm saving everyone that decision. I'm being cremated. Do what me what you wish

These things are only ever a concern of the living.

That said, if this were allowed and took off in a big way then there would be something decidedly American about it.
