I think they're in it more for the killing than collecting money.. In the hopes that the deadbeat wont pay up, they'll actually get to kill someone. Oh and that'll earn them respect and let the next man who crosses them take notice.

A handyman who burned an elderly woman to death in a New York City lift has been sentenced to 50 years to life in prison.

Prosecutors said Jerome Isaac was sentenced for killing 73-year-old Deloris Gillespie inside her Brooklyn apartment building days before Christmas in 2011.

Isaac, 48, ambushed Ms Gillespie, who was laden with shopping after returning home, when the lift doors opened.

Horrific CCTV footage shows how he calmly stepped inside and began dousing her with petrol from a spray canister.

Terrified Delores is seen turning her back and crouching in a corner as he uses a barbecue lighter to ignite the rag fuse of a Molotov cocktail.

Isaac, wearing a black jacket, surgical gloves and with a white dust mask on top of his head – then steps back and pauses for a moment before tossing the blazing bottle inside – engulfing Delores in flames.

He turned himself in a day later.

Isaac told police he attacked Ms Gillespie because he believed she owed him money.

He pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in November.

Prosecutors say he told probation officials conducting a mental health evaluation that he got orders from the devil.

He is believed to have fled down the staircase at the apartment block in Brooklyn, New York.

A neighbour told last night how he heard loud screams before smoke started filling the hallways. “There was a high-pitched yelling,” he said.

“I ran downstairs and heard popping sounds from the elevator shaft. The elevator sounded like it was boiling paint.” Another resident, Chris Martinez, 38, said: Everyone is in shock. Delores was such a lovely person. We didn’t know she had any enemies.”

The killing stunned even case-hardened detectives.
