Tree Surgeon Killed By Chainsaw.

A tree surgeon was killed when his chainsaw sliced through his neck.
Adam Baldock's head was almost severed in the horror accident which knocked him 20ft out of a tree.

Neighbours heard a bloodcurdling scream and one said: "I heard that the machine just kicked back and he fell."

Paramedics battled in vain to save Adam, 27, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

He died on his and girlfriend Katie Walker's third anniversary.

The couple have an 18-month-old daughter, Crystal, and were planning to marry.

Tearful Katie, 27, said last night: "He was the perfect father and perfect partner."

She left a poignant note at the spot where he died last week in Mitcham, Surrey, saying: "Being with you made me the happiest girl in the world."

Adam's distraught dad Phil, 57, said: "He was a great guy who loved his life. He was really fun loving."

Adam, of Tunbridge Wells, Kent, had been in his dream job for only six months.

A spokesman for his company, Acacia Tree Surgeons, said: "Everyone is very upset."

Police who said the death was "non-suspicious" are investigating with health and safety experts.

Re: Tree Surgeon Killed By Chainsaw.

I know this is gonna sound silly to some: how did a tree surgeon come to getting nearly decapitated by his own chainsaw? An amateur, I can understand, but an experience tree surgeon (even one with six months of experience) would know the proper manner in which to hold a chainsaw, which is NEVER above the shoulder level, and always in front of you, with at least enough arm clearance to allow for recoil, if the instrument should get jammed. Moreover, those gas-powered chainsaws are quite heavy to hold, and considering the large amount of force those things produce when cutting into wood, to hold it above one's head during it's operation is not only extremely difficult, it is also quite careless and stupid.

Oh that's awful. The saw must've kicked back or something. Talk about a Final Destination movie scene. Poor guy.

He probably got too comfortable with what he was doing and thought the safety rules didn't apply to him because he is so experienced. Biggest mistake anyone with a semi dangerous or dangerous job could make...

You're probably right, Hag. I've used a chainsaw hundreds of times, and in some rather tight spots. I can't ever see myself getting too cocky with those things. In a split second, if you're not paying a attention, they can either pull you forward and push you backward, quite violently.
