How funny would that be, though? See some asshole parents leave their kid in a hot car, then just say, "Excuse me," smash their window open, and say, "You forgot your kid."

This is how Jake shoots w/ his dad, who is a firearms instructor. It's the only way I have ever seen it done to be honest.

Well common sense just tells you that if someone near you is handling a firearm, you want to be as much behind that person and the direction in which they're aiming as humanly possible. Plus the instructor that girl shot should have had his own grip on the Uzi, given the fact that he had working knowledge of the effects of barrel climb in full-auto.

It's not a matter of stupidity or bad parenting or someone "deserving" a particular fate; it's a matter of professional negligence and a lapse in judgement. The guy paid for his mistake with his life, and the little girl is in all likelihood traumatized. All of the people here suggesting lawsuits or child welfare investigations are complete morons, because their so-called moral outrage is a reaction to a shitty incident the aftermath of which would only be exacerbated by any such "well-intended" undertakings.

Re: Shooting Instructor Accidentally Shot in the Head by a 9-year-old Girl Has

No one that I have read here has correctly explained what firearm was used by the nine year old girl...everyone keeps calling the firearm an Uzi and that really isn't true. The fully automatic firearm used by the little girl was a Mini Uzi Select Fire Machine Pistol in caliber 9mm. The difference between an Uzi and a Mini Uzi is like comparing a full-size two seat Harley Davidson motorcycle to a single seat Ducati racing motorcycle.

The Uzi was invented by Capt. Uziel Gal of the Israeli Defense Forces in 1949. It is a select fire pistol caliber submachine gun of fairly large size (17+ inches long with the folding stock collapsed) and weighing almost 8 lbs. unloaded. The firearm takes a standard capacity magazine holding 32 rounds of 9mm ammunition and fires at a rate of 600 rounds per minute. Very little felt recoil or muzzle rise based on the pistol caliber, length of barrel, and overall weight. See the photograph below for details.

The Micro Uzi was invented by Israel Defense Industries in 1949. It is a select fire pistol caliber submachine gun of very small size (10+ inches long with the folding stock collapsed) and weighing almost 4.5 lbs. unloaded. The firearm takes a standard capacity magazine holding 20 rounds of 9mm ammunition and fires at a rate of 1250 rounds per minute. Fairly heavy felt recoil and extreme muzzle rise based on the short length of barrel and overall light weight. The Micro Uzi is known as being one of the fastest firing modern submachine guns available today. See the photograph below for details.

Re: Shooting Instructor Accidentally Shot in the Head by a 9-year-old Girl Has

The instructor killed himself.

Too bad he used a 9 year old girl to do it.

Too many instructor 'mistakes' to be accidental.

He was essentially 'smoking in a dynamite factory while doused in gasoline'.

He had a real active self-destructive side.

Like I said...suicide.

He's standing where he's supposed to be standing. It's his job to be basically on top of the shooter. So if the gun gets away from the shooter he can push the weapon away. But he wasn't able to get his hand on the weapon fast enough.
I taught my children at a younger age than 9 to handle firearms. Not a uzi, but I don't own a uzi.

Re: Shooting Instructor Accidentally Shot in the Head by a 9-year-old Girl Has

If you look at the photos I posted earlier look specifically at the area in front of the trigger guard. On the full sized Uzi you'll notice a fore grip to grasp the front of the firearm to help mitigate the muzzle rise and recoil. On the Micro Uzi, notice that there really isn't any free space in front of the trigger guard to hold on to. There is a small metal piece that can be added to the firearm that acts as a forward vertical grip...but even then it's not much to grip considering the extreme muzzle rise of this particular firearm. I think the photos of the two firearms pretty much tell the story of what happened in this incident.

I taught my children at a younger age than 9 to handle firearms. Not a uzi, but I don't own a uzi.

1.) He was absolutely not standing in the right place. You can tell because he got himself shot in the head.

2.) It was not his job to 'push the weapon away'. That's a recipe for disaster.

3.) His job was make sure that the firearm was firmly snugged up and under control of the shooter at all times. Once things get out of hand...it's usually too late to do anything about it.

4.) You can't hand a Mini-Uzi to a full grown adult without a whole lot more training. Let alone a 9 year old girl.

5.) She should have have a lot of firing in single shot mode only to get the feel of the weapon and to develop well founded confidence.

6.) After sufficient single shot work and demonstrated competency, she should have been given mags with 2 shots only, then 3 shots only, then 5 shots only and so on until she displayed the necessary competence to progress to a fully loaded 32 round mag.

7.) You simply cannot rush proper training or you are effectively handing an untrained/undertrained novice a live machine gun. You see the result of that.

I started shooting at about age 6 with a bolt action .22 rifle with a 5 round mag.

I was not allowed to use the mag for a long time. I was only allowed to feed in one round at a time as if it were a single shot rifle.

My dad was there every inch of the way.
