Young children and adolescents get their cues from gender role stereotyping, which is not the same as knowing firsthand what it means to be a man or a woman in either the physical or conceptual sense.

The key terms there are "man" and "woman," as opposed to "boy" or "girl." One does not have a solid firsthand concept of what it means to be one or the other until one has reached that level of physical adulthood, at which point it becomes easier to determine whether or not one fits the mold represented by those terms.
Mike I appreciate your thoughts, but you are 100% wrong. It is how they are born!

As long as kids aren't getting hormones and sex change surgery under 18, I don't care.

I was born with a pie....

But I feel like I am a guy...

sung to the melody of her dads song "I believe "

Just thought of that while I was on the can...

I think the causes are complex and mostly unknown at this point in time. I think some people are born with the wrong parts sometimes. It must be very difficult for someone to have those feelings. Someone would have to be strong to even pursue a change like that, just dealing with family and friends, not to mention society.

I do think there is a danger of parents deciding their kids are transgender just because they are gender-nonconforming (and these parents' kids will interpret their gender nonconformity the way they've been taught). That's why there should be no medical intervention until the kid is a adult capable of giving informed consent, but sadly, that is not the case right now...
