He knows the risks and doesn't care. He's doing something no one else wants to, even if it may seem very trivial to you, he has found a purpose to his life for now, I don't think he will regret whatever cancer this causes. To them he is everything, that's all some people need to feel to complete a sense of fulfillment with their life. It's good karma. I say good for him.
