Louisiana Republican Flees Interview When Asked About Obama's Birthplace

Louisiana Republican Flees Interview When Asked About Obama's Birthplace

A Republican congressional candidate fled her interview with a major election-forecasting group after being asked why she believed global warming was a hoax and whether President Barack Obama was born in the United States, according to a new report in The Washington Post.

In the Post, David Wasserman, the House editor at the Cook Political Report, detailed his strange encounter with the "frightening" and "fact-averse" Louisiana State Rep. Lenar Whitney.

Whitney, who is running for Louisiana's open sixth district, gained some prominence in June when she released a campaign video blasting global warming as a "hoax" and the press as "lamestream media." Wasserman said he pressed Whitney on the issue of climate change only to find her unable to answer his questions.

"But it’s not unreasonable to expect candidates to explain how they arrived at their positions, and when I pressed Whitney repeatedly for the source of her claim that the earth is getting colder, she froze and was unable to cite a single scientist, journal, or news source to back up her beliefs," he wrote.

Wasserman said he attempted to "change the subject" and ask whether she believed Obama was born in the United States. Her aides then ended the interview.

"When she replied that it was a matter of some controversy, her two campaign consultants quickly whisked her out of the room, accusing me of conducting a 'Palin-style interview,'" he continued. "It was the first time in hundreds of Cook Political Report meetings that a candidate has fled the room."

Whitney could not immediately be reached for comment.

Update: In a Facebook post last week, after the interview was conducted, Whitney slammed the Cook Political Report. "It was obvious, from the onset of the interview, that Wasserman had planned to jump me simply because I am a Conservative Woman and liberal shills like Dave Wasserman want to destroy us," she wrote.

Well this is stupid. You could go up to any politician and ask for facts to back up their claims and I bet 99% of them would have no idea what to say or would divert the question. Most of them just say what they are told to say.

I doubt many of them would leave an interview because they can't back up their claims.. Fucking Tea Party idiots

Funny how Obama still hasn't shown proof of being born in the US. Yet he gets re-elected like nothings wrong.

He always says something about racism and dismisses the question.

If you're an illegal immigrant you have more rights than an American Citizen and you're entitled to free everything... or else, "racism"... even though Mexican isn't a race, it's a nationality.
Gotta love getting at least 33% of your pay stolen right off the top to pay for these assholes and their kids to get healthcare that you can't even afford.

Re: Louisiana Republican Flees Interview When Asked About Obama's Birthplace

Why would it even matter? Aside from it being a requirement to be president - is it that big of a deal?

The president doesn't have much real power. He's allowed to make small decisions, that have no impact on big picture, important stuff. He cannot change or make calls on big things - without the push or ok from other sources. None of the presidents have ever been "in charge" and they aren't true "shot-callers".

They're all handled and don't make a move without the go-ahead from others.

The presidents face changes, but everything stays pretty much on course with whatever the agenda is.

Weird how people forget that around EVERY SINGLE ELECTION. They fool themselves into believing that this next guy will change things. It will be different this time.

News flash. It won't be. If the candidates can't play ball, they won't make it into the election. Those aren't random people that are purely chosen by the public.

Very few people actually realize how little power the president actually has..

People blame problems and issues they have had for 20 years on the current president and administration, it's ludicrous.

People want to bitch about immigration, the problem ACTUALLY started in 1986 when Ronald Reagan gave amnesty to all illegals already here. No shit everyone noticed that and thought, I want a piece of that action!
