Kenyan Politicians Tell Barack Obama to Leave 'gay Rights' Talk at Home

Barack Obama has been warned by senior Kenyan politicians not to raise the issue of homosexuality when he visits his ancestral homeland later this month.
Both the country’s deputy president and its parliamentary speaker have warned the US president off the controversial subject, saying it is “unchristian” and “dirty”.
Mr Obama is however likely to disregard the advice, which comes just weeks after the United States’ Supreme Court made the widely-praised decision to allow same-sex marriage across the country.
During a previous visit to South Africa, Tanzania and Senegal, he refused to shy away from the topic, despite many African countries being deeply conservative and opposed to gay rights.
The visit to Kenya, where his father was born and died in a car accident in 1982, is his first as president. He is expected to arrive on July 23 to attend a global entrepreneurial summit before flying on to Ethiopia where he will address African leaders at the African Union’s base in Addis Ababa.
This week, as Kenya geared up to host the US president, some of its citizens took to Twitter to discuss what they wanted to come from his visit, using the hashtag #KenyansMessageToObama.
Gay rights featured heavily. At the same time, around 100 people marched through the centre of Nairobi under the banner: “Protect the Family”

"We do not want Obama and Obama, we do not want Michelle and Michelle," protesters chanted. "We want Obama and Michelle and we want a child!"
Speaking during a church service on Sunday, William Ruto, Kenya’s deputy president, vowed to defend the country against any “dirty” ideas.
“Homosexuality is against the plan of God, God did not create man and woman so that men would marry men and women marry women,” he told the congregation.
“We have heard that in the US they have allowed gay relations and other dirty things. I want to say as a Christian leader that we will defend our country Kenya, we will stand for our faith and our country.”
Mr Ruto, who is currently undergoing a lengthy trial at the International Criminal Court in The Hague over allegations he organised tribal violence in the disputed 2007 elections, appealed to Christians and Muslims to resist any attempts to legalise gay unions.
“No amount of persuasions, theories or philosophy will make us change our position. We believe in God, this is a God-fearing nation and will continue to be so,” he was quoted as saying by Kenya’s Daily Nation newspaper.
Justin Muturi, the speaker of Kenya’s National Assembly, went one step further, saying Mr Obama would be stopped from talking about gay rights and “sanctioned” if he did so.
"We will demonstrate firmness against such obtrusions," he said. "As an individual and a Christian, I am opposed to homosexuality and cannot condone gay practices."
A spokesman for Kenya’s State House played down the issue, saying Kenya “cannot tell President Barack Obama what he will and will not say”.

Yeah no I know, but still.. It's funny how they're trying to make a point by using a completely incorrect arguement. They don't want Obama and Obama, but they want (Barack) Obama and Michelle (Obama).

It's a shame that people always seem to use the bible to 'prove' things to others. Why can't people form opinions of their own without having to use religion a a justification.

Not surprising at all. Sadly many countries like these will never get over their homophobic ideals.
