Wierd. What, did they think she wanted to bury him in the back yard?

Re: Hospital Sends Stillborn Baby Home in a Styrofoam Cooler

I don't think they thought. Even if it had been an insurance issue, I would think they wouldn't just give her a dead baby, unless she asked for him.

I can't think of any possible reason. Alot of hospitals did away with maternity units, but, they should still have a morgue.

I didn't think they would send a stillborn home to the family, I thought it would go to a funeral home or somewhere. unless she or someone asked specifically for the child's body. still a freaking cooler?! geesh.... is everyone emotionless?

Re: Hospital Sends Stillborn Baby Home in a Styrofoam Cooler

I do this shit for a living.... I'm super surprised that the Hospital did what they did (but I'm not against it). Hospitals are a business (else they lose money and close) which means they cannot float the bills over all the deceased they accumulate over time. Most funeral homes, including mine, would cremate that infant for no cost or at cost (because it's the right thing to do).

She would have been told that and just went all Ape Shit for Brains!

Don't Forget We are seeing edited news video and that woman WOULD have to have signed multiple documents to get the child.

Sometimes they (dead infants) do come in coolers, sometimes a toolbox, and sometimes just a towel.

Re: Hospital Sends Stillborn Baby Home in a Styrofoam Cooler

This makes me think of the movie Home Room. In it a mom is given a styrofoam cooler for her dead baby to bury in.

Re: Hospital Sends Stillborn Baby Home in a Styrofoam Cooler

Very sad as presented but there is a side to every story....

My 2 yr old cousin died in the hospital and her parents were given her body wrapped in blankets. Unfortunately the cooler is the option for smaller babies - just a check box on the form.
