Re: Dog Attacks Man Performing CPR on Owner; Both Men Die

I don't keep track, but I know more people with scars from Labradors than from Pit Bulls.

This dog didn't attack the guy because of it's breed. It wasn't unstable, it was acting like a normal dog acts when it's family member is in distress and under threat. Dogs do not understand what CPR is . . . . .

How horribly sad all around. Dogs certainly can become extremely protective - goes for all breeds. Just so sad

Ahhh that is so sad. And they will probably put the dog down.

Re: Dog Attacks Man Performing CPR on Owner; Both Men Die

If the dog had only bitten the guy, there might have been some leeway. Because the guy died, that puts an almost definite end to that dog's life.

I don't even know how it would work out if you were attacked in your home and your dog protected you, killing the intruder. I could see how they'd say that the dog is proven to be dangerous, because it DID kill someone.
Depending on the local laws and who's calling the shots, your "hero" may have to be destroyed.

So scary to think about.

I hate to say it but would anyone trust a dog regardless of breed knowing it had killed someone?
I certainly wouldn't and I think the authorities have a duty to euthanize the pooch...

Re: Dog Attacks Man Performing CPR on Owner; Both Men Die

No. Especially if it was someone else's dog.

The problem is, once it's crossed that line, you have to be very vigilant. The dog may be more sensitive to threats.
Dogs get emotionally damaged from stressful events. If they get attacked while on a walk, they may hate other dogs after that, even if super friendly before they were attacked.

It would at least need to be evaluated by a knowledgable professional, on multiple occasions. I can see how on most(if not all) cases, the dog is put down.

UPDATE, MONDAY 1 P.M.:

Wheeling police have released the names of the victims.

Police said David Wallace, 63 of Wheeling, and Roy A. Higgenbotham Jr., 62 of Wheeling, died Sunday night.

In a press release, Police Chief Shawn Schwertfeger said that even though one of the victims was attacked by the dog on scene, the cause of death of both subjects remains undetermined. Schwertfeger also said investigators will rely heavily on the toxicologies and autopsies.

According to the news release, the dog involved in the incident remains in quarantine and in the care of the Ohio County Animal Control. The dog was not on the City of Wheeling register of Dangerous or Vicious Dogs.
*wrings hands together*

Gooooood. Gooooood. The dog has taken the blame.

My plan has worked perfectly... *evil smile*

You're such a dick.

I think the dog will be fine. Hopefully?
