I am willing to bet that Mars was once a flourishing planet much like our own. Comet, asteroid, or gamma ray burst is my guess. A gamma ray burst of sufficient power can blast away a planet's protective atmosphere- instant total planet death, loss of water, loss of gravity (believed) no hope of recovery. Picked this up from 'The History Channel'. what I don't understand is how a direct gamma ray burst to mars did little or no damage to our own planet? any thoughts?

* I read an article where they had found bacteria & possibly tiny artifacts of fish bones but I can't remember what magazine to research it...it may have been the prev rover expedition they did in the 90's *

Very cool photos. The third photo to me was fantastic as it looked like it was caused by rushing water.

Well I can only hope there are Martians and when they land on Earth find that they piss gasoline and crap diamonds.

There will be caverns of water under the surface.

Rivers and seas are known on Earth to run underground for many miles and since the sun was larger when Mars had water on its surface, its safe to assume that once the sun became smaller the water merely went closer to the planets core.

Life will be down there, whether its life we would/should discover is another thing entirely.
