Antiques Roadshow Brooch

A woman who nearly sold an old brooch at a market stall for £10 pounds is celebrating today after it fetched more than £35,000 at auction.
Jill Cousins, 67, had kept the gothic-looking piece at the bottom of her jewellery box after inheriting it from her mother.
She went to sell it at an antiques market last year but, although she had left it out on the sideboard, she forgot to take it with her.

Incredibly, Mrs Cousins tuned into the BBC's Antiques Roadshow two days later to find expert Geoffrey Munn talking about a missing brooch made by celebrated Victorian designer William Burges.
He showed viewers designs of the piece and appealed for the person who owned the lost jewellery to come forward.
Mrs Cousins realised the brooch - that has four turquoise flowers surrounding a red heart with entwined branches around the edges - was the same one as hers.
She approached the Antiques Roadshow with it and delighted Mr Munn estimated the piece to be worth £10,000.
Mrs Cousins decided to sell it at auction and today it went under the hammer for £31,000. With the auctioneers fees added on the overall price was over £35,000.
It was bought by an anonymous London collector.

Auctioneer Mark Gilding said: 'Mrs Cousins was in the room for the sale. It's fair to say she has had a fantastic day and she was understandably jumping for joy afterwards.
'Considering that she had been prepared to sell the brooch for just 10 pounds, she has done very well out of it.
'Mrs Cousins inherited the piece from her mother but didn't like it and kept it at the bottom of her jewellery box for 20 years.
'Then one day last year she was going to sell it at an antiques market stall but she forgot to put it in her handbag to take with her which was extremely fortunate for her.
'Two days later she saw the design on the Antiques Roadshow.'
Mrs Cousins, from Market Harborough, Leicestershire, said: 'I dashed upstairs and picked out the brooch and compared it to the design on the TV. It was amazing.
'Mr Munn said the six brooches in the designs were his 'most wanted' items in the world, for which he had been searching for more than 20 years. And it turned out that I owned one of them.'
The brooch was made by William Burges in about 1864 as a gift for the marriage of John Pollard and Margaret Seddon.
John Pollard Seddon, as he then styled himself, was an architect and artist who moved in the same circles as Burges.
Mr Munn said: 'When she (Mrs Cousins) brought it to the show they wouldn't let me see it until the cameras were rolling.
'So instead of a bewildered viewer you got a bewildered expert.
'It is one of the great jewellery mysteries, although not the most valuable. But Burges was a genius and these items are fantastically rare - hardly measurable.'
Mrs Cousins mother was given the brooch about 40 years ago by her school teacher Florence Calder in Derbyshire whom she had looked after.
