Re: Airshow Plane Crashes into Cars on A27 at Shoreham, West Sussex

This made my blood boil. This absolute arsehole asked for the money for his ticket to be refunded because it "ruined his early birthday treat" Though he has apologised, I think he apologised for the fact he'd posted on a public page rather than being sincere

Lewis Macdonald branded 'heartless' after his refund request for airshow
He posted on Facebook asking how to get money back for four £18 tickets
Former charity worker said he 'did not get full day's worth out of tragedy'
Hundreds criticised him on social media and he has since apologised.

A Shoreham Airshow spectator apologised last night after demanding a refund for four tickets, saying Britain's worst air disaster in a generation had 'ruined his early birthday treat'.

Former charity worker Lewis Macdonald posted on Facebook asking how to get the money back for the £18 tickets after saying he 'did not get a full day's worth out of this tragedy'.

But now ‘humiliated’ Mr Macdonald, of Worthing, West Sussex, has said sorry after being pilloried on social media, adding that he had ‘couldn't stop crying’ about Saturday’s tragic crash.

Mr Macdonald, who studied aircraft engineering at college, admitted that he sounded 'callous' but said his father desperately needed the cash back after spending £72 on the day out.

He originally posted on Facebook, saying: 'It's ruined my day... all flying was cancelled. I was there today as an early birthday treat.

'Now it's ruined and my dad spent all that money on four people practically for nothing. I know it sounds callous, but I'd like to know how to get the money he spent back in his account.'

But hundreds of people took to Twitter to condemn his post after at least 11 people lost their lives when the Hawker Hunter jet smashed into a line of cars on the A27 in West Sussex.

And after receiving an onslaught of abuse from people who called him ‘heartless’, Mr Macdonald posted another message, saying: 'How dare they accuse me of being selfish.'

He added: 'I'm so terribly sorry that (I) have moved on from this tragic incident and am now concerned with helping out my dad.'

However Mr Macdonald, who listed Oxfam as a previous employer, later relented and posted a full apology on his Facebook page. He said he was 'devastated' after the tragedy and said he was hurting just as much as anyone else.

Mr Macdonald said: 'I have a history of saying and doing some pretty stupid things, and whilst I had the best of intentions, I didn't think when I posted on a public message board.

there is a chance (perhaps this has been discussed already) that the pilot lost consciousness or lost control of his plane. im not a pilot so i cant say for sure....just a thought though....

Shoreham Airshow crash: Jet pilot to be questioned by police.

The pilot of the vintage jet that crashed during the Shoreham Airshow, killing 11 people, is set to be questioned by police and investigators.

Andrew Hill was left fighting for his life after the Hawker Hunter plane failed to pull out of a loop-the-loop stunt and plummeted on to the A27 in West Sussex.

He has reportedly been released from an undisclosed specialist hospital and faces questioning "as soon as possible".

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "The pilot's condition is improving.

"Police and investigators from the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB), who are conducting parallel investigations, are looking to interview the pilot as soon as possible.

"We are not permitted to disclose his location as this is a private matter for which we do not have the family's permission."

An interim report released by the AAIB found "no abnormal indications" during the Hawker Hunter flight.

Investigators also said cockpit cameras showed the 1950s jet "appeared to be responding to the pilot's control inputs".

The victims who died were: wedding chauffeur Maurice Abrahams 76, from Brighton; retired engineer James Graham Mallinson, 72, from Newick, near Lewes; window cleaner and general builder Mark Trussler, 54, from Worthing; cycling friends Dylan Archer, 42, from Brighton, and Richard Smith, 26, from Hove; NHS manager Tony Brightwell, 53, from Hove; grandfather Mark Reeves, 53, from Seaford; Worthing United footballers Matthew Grimstone and Jacob Schilt, both 23; personal trainer Matt Jones, 24; and Daniele Polito, 23, from Worthing.

The inquest into their deaths was opened and adjourned last week by West Sussex senior coroner Penelope Schofield. A pre-inquest review will take place on March 22.

Going to be interesting to see if it all boils down to pilot error...

Its looking that way. I read last week that according to reports, he started the loop over 100ft lower than what he should have done.

I *hope* it's not human error. I can't imagine what it would feel like to know that a split second decision you made resulted in the death of 11people.

That being said, I know nothing about aviation whatsoever but that plane looked insanely low to me. I wonder if there might have been an issue with the instruments or something?

Its going to take time. The police are involved as there is a criminal investigation due to the deaths...I still think he grayed out.
