GEORGIA needs to do a lot of exercise to shift her excess weight.

But she must build up to it very gently because of the huge strain her size has already put on her heart and circulation. Her joints are also suffering and her muscles are out of condition.

For someone as unfit as Georgia, heart rate and blood pressure could soar to dangerous levels even on minimal exertion.

One of the aims of her fitness programme is just to get her moving again after months of doing nothing. She will adapt to exercise and reap long-term benefits only by going easy now and increasing the pace gradually under supervision so her personal trainer is doing exactly the right thing.

Georgia must also get used to making exercise part of her daily activities and learn to enjoy it.

If she makes the most of this chance she could remake her life and be a shining example to many who have given up on their weight.

She and trainer Jane Dowling carried out gentle exercises outside in the crisp March air.

The pair did arm raises and tricep curls using resistance bands and dumbbells, then threw and caught a pink ball, before stretching.

And Georgia looked like she was thoroughly enjoying it.

Georgia, from Aberdare, south Wales, was declared to be Britain's fattest teen in August 2008, when she weighed 33st aged just 15.

She spent nine months at weight-loss camp Wellspring, in North Carolina, and returned home in June 2009, a huge 15st lighter.

But back home she found it hard to maintain a healthy regime and without any long-term support from Wellspring, the NHS or her family, she slipped into depression.

She went from being a person who had found a new lease of life in America, where she had "learned to love exercise", to a virtual recluse, wolfing down cake, chocolate and crisps in the cramped two-bed semi she shares with her mum Lesley, 56, and step-dad Arthur, 73.

After our story last month, London-based fitness trainer Jane got in touch to offer Georgia her services for free - with one-to-one coaching plus exercises she can do back home in Wales.

Georgia will tie in training sessions with visits to London nutritionist Nigel Denby and therapist Steve McKeown, from St Albans, Herts. In the long term she plans to relocate to the capital.

After her workout in Southwark Park, Georgia told us: "I stopped going to the gym at the beginning of last year.

"I got depressed and I couldn't think about doing any exercise. Now I know I've got to get back into it.

"In America I used to like playing all sorts of sports including basketball, tennis and badminton. I want to be able to get together with friends and do those things again.

"The only thing I don't like is walking. I used to have to wear a pedometer in America and I hate those things." Now a huge size 36, Georgia gets breathless walking just short distances. As a result, these initial workouts have to be gentle.

Trainer Jane, who runs Fitness For Every Body in London Bridge and has worked with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, said: "We're working at a baseline level. It's very gentle to begin with, just to get Georgia moving. We have to make sure her heart isn't being overworked.

"As we go on and Georgia becomes fitter, we will extend the length of her sessions and add in more challenging things."

Jane has been discussing her fitness schedule with Georgia's GP. During each training session she measures Georgia's heart rate with a device on her fingertip. She also monitors Georgia's blood pressure.

Georgia suffers from back pain due to the strain of her weight and her right knee is prone to dislocating.

But there is absolutely nothing wrong with her attitude.

Georgia, who will be 18 next month, said: "I'll carry on exercising for as long as I'm told.

"It's only if my back is really hurting that I'll ask to stop.

"I don't mind going on the treadmill in a gym, but it's really nice to be out in the fresh air.

"I love London. It would be amazing to live here."

The move to the city will be emotional, though. Georgia has been a registered carer for mum Lesley, who has heart problems and osteoarthritis, since she was ten.

Those around Georgia believe the move will mean she is better placed to concentrate on regular training, nutrition and therapy sessions.

And for Georgia, becoming an independent adult in our vibrant capital is a giant leap towards transforming herself into the healthy person she longs to be.

The mother may be ill but it seems to me like her mom wants her fat and house bound, because who else will wait on her hand and foot, bloody selfish I reckon, that kids life expectancy isn't good.

no sympathy for fat people here. Not getting that fat is a simple task. Just eat right and stay away from fast food and whatnot.
