16 Y.o. Drowns in Salt River

MESA, Ariz. - The body of a teenager has been found in the water at Pebble Beach, south of Saguaro Lake, near the Blue Point Recreation site.

His body was discovered just before 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Dive teams with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Department recovered his body after a nearly six hour search.

Deputies said his sister was with him when he slipped underwater. He was swimming in the lower Salt River.

His sister swam ashore for help, and his dad tried to rescue him -- but it was too late.

“The water was going too fast underneath. He just never came back up,” said witness Jackie Poras.

Other witnesses heard the boy's mother screaming and dove in.

As crowds of families watched, Estevan Rorzco, another witness, said he grew desperate.

“Just find him. Let's just find him. Who cares who he is? It’s a little kid,” Rorzco said.

As a Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office helicopter circled from up above, divers combed the murky water below.

"The hardest part is being a dad and knowing there’s a little kid in there. I’ve lost one son, and that’s something you don’t even wish on your enemies,” Rorzco said.

At about 1:15 p.m., the teen's mother said he disappeared underwater and did not resurface.

Authorities found her screaming on the shore. She told deputies the teen did know how to swim.

Several men jumped into the water to try to save the teen, but they said they could not see him.

One said he could hear the boy's mother screaming whenever he resurfaced for air.

Deputies said the water was dangerous on Sunday. Although it appears to be shallow, it has varying depths, with pockets as deep as 22 feet. There was also a current.

At least one person drowns in there each year, authorities said.

The area is popular for tubing.

The 16-year-old was identified as Guillermo Ramos, a Mexican National. The Mexican Consulate has been notified.

The point is if he would of stayed in his own country instead of breaking the law and Illegally entering the U.S. he would probably still be alive.

"The 16-year-old was identified as Guillermo Ramos, a Mexican National. The Mexican Consulate has been notified."

“Just find him. Let's just find him. Who cares who he is? It’s a little kid,” Rorzco said

The words in red are implying that he is illegal and that people may not help because hes illegal.
