Just a hint for you Nik.. If you're reading an article from a rightwing news site, look who they referenced for the story. If you read the associated press article that all the sites quote, it doesn't have the spin and cherrypicking.

"A limited number of family immigrant visas are issued yearly, and in some cases approved would-be immigrants from Haiti can wait more than a decade for a visa to become available.

It is unclear how many immigrants may benefit from the program initially. There are about 100,000 Haitians already approved to come to the U.S. awaiting a visa."

I get that argument.. But our country has always made exceptions for those in war torn countries, a natural disaster isn't much different. If they weren't waiting for up to 10 years with no economic prospects, their desire to work and contribute wouldn't be wasted.

Re: 100,000 Haitians to Be Allowed into the States Under Obama Executive Order

There are so many other countries with people who desire to work and whose contributions will be wasted as they too wait many years to be on US soil.

War torn countries are not sending us 100,000 people, unless you count the heads they lopped off. The translators who saved our soldiers from being killed are still "waiting" too. But the difference is, no one in Haiti is going to be murdered because they helped us.

Haiti has gotten a lot of help. It is time they take care of their own for a minute while we help all the others. Besides, is America the only place they can go? Why can't they contribute elsewhere in some other country? Because no other country wants them.

You're not thinking clearly. The number of "approved" visas tripled under Obama. Who runs the offices in charge of immigration? Give you a hint, they're considered executive branches. And the executive appoints the Secretary.

Those 100,000 people are already in the legal pipeline to receive their visas within the next two years. Most of them have been waiting since BEFORE the earthquake..

Here's a hint for you. Your article here says " A limited number of family immigrant visas are issued yearly" So if that's the case, we only approve a "limited" number. Than how do we have 100,000 approved in Haiti? Maybe because of a certain persons instruction..

Fake statistics again..

If you think 6.6 million to 9.1 million is triple, you need to retake 3rd grade math.

Yes the number of those that get approved is limited, otherwise we would have 100's of millions immigrating for work visas. We have 9 million, 100,000 is not that large of a number.

Actually those 100,000 wouldn't be here in 2 years. The average wait can be from 2 to 12 years. The story says they would be eligible in two years, not that they would be here in two years.
If they were going to all be here in two years Obama wouldn't have signed a executive order to expedite them.
