GW Bridge Jumper Rescued

I'm only posting this because I drove by as the officer was putting on his harness to start the rescue. All I saw was the dude's head and one arm that was holding the upright of the railing. And the people in front of me were rubbernecking to no end...

Traffic back to normal on GWB
by George Berkin/The Star-Ledger
Wednesday February 06, 2008, 7:40 PM

Traffic on the George Washington Bridge has returned to normal after a man, who was threatening to jump from the span, was pulled to safety, officials said.

The unidentified man was pulled onto the bridge's sidewalk unharmed from the middle of the upper deck at about 6:45 p.m., Port Authority spokesman Steve Coleman said. Thirty minutes later, traffic was back to normal, he said.

The man was rescued by the Port Authority's emergency services unit, Coleman said. He had been on the bridge for about 90 minutes.

Two of four eastbound lanes on the upper level were closed at about 5:20 p.m. when the man threatened to jump. The westbound upper-level lanes and all lower-level remained open. The bridge connects Fort Lee and Manhattan.

I was in a rush and the cop already had his harness on, so I didn't want to interrupt his fun.

It was NYC, and in NYC, you mind your own business?

Honestly, there's no way I would stop my car on the bridge and cause traffic problems. There's been too many times that I was stuck in traffic because of someone's stupidity and I don't want to be an additional cause of that. (When I lived in NYC, my commute was 8 miles (12.9km), average time was 40-60 minutes, was stuck for 4 hours on an 8 mile drive once.)

There were a couple times that I was tempted to leave the car and walk the rest of the way....
