Behold an island surrounded by a magical golden sea.
With only a small leap of the imagination, we can see a boat bearing King Arthur to his final resting place.
This extraordinary, enchanting photograph was taken at sunset as the peak of Glastonbury Tor in Somerset poked through fog and low-lying cloud.
A flock of birds taking flight in the foreground adds to the sense of Arthurian romance.
Named Ynys yr Afalon by the ancient Britons, the 500ft tor, topped by St Michael's tower, is said to be the Avalon of legend, where a mortally wounded Arthur was taken.
The picture was taken from the Mendip Hills by amateur photographer John Davies, 70.
His wife Fran, 60, who was with him at the time, said: "It was such a fantastic day. Earlier, all you could see was the very top of the church tower sticking through the clouds.
"As the sun went down, the clouds sank and you could see the wonderful view captured in the photo." | Source |
