2011 Executions in the USA
Now that Christmas is over and the new year has begun, they already start to snuff people again. Here we go 2011, our first needle-man: Billy Don Alverson Executed January 6, 2011 06:10 p.m. CDT by Lethal Injection in Oklahoma ![]() Victim: Crime: Richard Yost was working as a clerk at the QuikTrip convenience store in Tulsa when Alverson and three other men came in to rob him. When he resisted, the men handcuffed and beat Yost to death with a baseball bat,striking him 54 times. Most of the events were captured on surveillance video. All four men participated in the beating, although Alverson denied he ever hit Yost. Alverson is one of four men who were convicted of first-degree murder. Accomplice Darwin Desmond Brown was executed in January 2009. Accomplice Michael L. Wilson is appealing a death sentence. Accomplice Richard J. Harjo is serving a life sentence without parole. He told each of his family members witnessing the execution that he loved them and made a kissing motion toward them. · |

Oklahoma Corrections is busy it seems: Jeffrey David Matthews Executed January 11, 2011 06:09 p.m. CDT by Lethal Injection in Oklahoma ![]() Crime: Matthews was convicted and sentenced to death for the January 1994 murder of 77-year-old Otis Earl Short during a robbery of Short’s home in Rosedale. Prosecutors said Matthews was one of two men who stormed into Short’s home east of Rosedale. Testimony indicated that Matthews shot Short once in the head at close range with a .45-caliber pistol and that a second man, Tracy Dyer, cut the throat of Short’s wife, Minnie Short. The men fled in Otis Short’s truck with $500 in cash and a .32-caliber pistol. Minnie Short survived and died later of natural causes. Dyer, 36, was convicted of first-degree murder and other charges and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Citations: None Final/Special Meal: A deep dish meat lover's pizza, deep fried jumbo shrimp and two hush puppies with vinegar sauce. Final Words: “Let my mother know I love her. I just want to thank everyone for their support. I also want to thank all my buddies on death row. I hear you banging.” Shortly before the lethal drugs began flowing, Matthews looked at his relatives and said with a smile: “I think that governor’s phone is broke. He hadn’t called yet.” |
