The Beheading Video Of Great Britain's Kenneth Bigley
The death of Kenneth John Bigley, a British civil engineer, was a tragic and high-profile incident that captured international attention in 2004. Bigley was kidnapped and subsequently murdered by militants in Iraq, an event that highlighted the extreme dangers faced by foreigners in the country during a period of intense insurgency following the 2003 invasion by United States-led coalition forces. Kenneth Bigley, born in Liverpool, England, was working on a project in Baghdad when he was abducted on September 16, 2004, along with two American colleagues, Eugene Armstrong and Jack Hensley. The group responsible for the kidnapping was led by the infamous jihadist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who was linked to al-Qaeda. The militants demanded the release of Iraqi women prisoners held by coalition forces, threatening to kill the hostages if their demands were not met. The plight of Bigley gained widespread media coverage, particularly in the United Kingdom, where his family made heartfelt appeals for his release. Despite efforts by the British government and international agencies, the situation deteriorated. The American hostages were killed in the days following the abduction. Three weeks after his capture, on October 7, 2004, a video was released by the militants showing the beheading of Kenneth Bigley. Nothing but cowards! These so called men would never have the courage to attempt a rescue operation of the Iraqi Prisoners. |
