Re: The Beating & Drowning Of Two Goat Thieves
A goat to these people is probably worth a lot more than a horse to us here is USA in the western days. Anyone remember what we did to someone who stole a horse? They were hanged. Not sure they were killed is this video but I sure bet they were wishing they were dead during that beating! Occupational hazard of a thief in 3rd world country. No sympathy here.

While I'm all in favor of harsher punishments than we currently have in modern countries, THAT right there, is fucked up beyond words. Errm, why gag the goat, why not secure it, and can anyone please tell me how those "in mouth" gags are supposed to silence someone? I've always wondered about that. |

Re: The Beating & Drowning Of Two Goat Thieves
Defending your property is one thing, but beating, dragging, drowning and humiliating a subdued threat, another entirely. I would not hesitate to shoot a burglar in the head or go American History X on his jaw, but only for as long as he represents a threat. If you want to KILL a threat, on the other hand, there is no call for torture. Torture is a means to drag information from someone, or to teach them a lesson, but the latter only makes sense if the student lives to learn from it. Those people were being so elaborate about it that one might think they enjoyed it, and that's where worrying about goat thieves becomes the least of your worries. No matter how poor, I would rather see my goat stolen than live with people who enjoy that shit. They'd probably do it for less. Once this kind of vendetta becomes acceptable, so does stoning for crimes that aren't even crimes, or victimless (moral) crimes. |

Re: The Beating & Drowning Of Two Goat Thieves
Death for every crime is the oposite of a deterent. If you get killed for stealing a goat you may as well come in machette swinging and kill the whole village while you steal their goats. Same punishment either way. |

Not quite. Killing the whole village will eliminate any punishers :) But you're right. If people are poor enough to kill thieves, then the thieves, probably even poorer, will be ready to resort to much, much worse.
