I do not know where you live but there are community colleges that offer Mortuary Science degrees and you can intern at participating mortuaries in the area.

A good embalming of a typical case shouldn't take much longer than two or three hours. Funeral mills can do it faster by cutting corners, while some more complicated cases can take days.

If you haven't seen it before here is a link to the Atlas of Forensic Pathology, I managed to download the whole book for free, not sure if it still works...

Great section on corpse prep.

Yes, but the deceased won't look as good after embalming as with a more careful approach. The body won't last as long either, and distressing mistakes are more likely. It's less expensive and very profitable, but it's disrespectful in so many ways.

Done properly, embalming can make the deceased appear to be in restful sleep. Done on the cheap, disturbing results can happen.

Hmm, I downloaded using my university WiFi, doesn't look like it's open to the general public.

If it doesn't work I could Dropbox it to you.

Let me know how you get on..
