Muslim Tradition of Washing the Dead

In the Muslim tradition, the dead are washed and wrapped before burial. The cleansing process costs the family of the deceased 5000 iraqi dinar (roughly $4.50) and lasts upward of twenty minutes. Neighboring Najaf's cemetery, parlors specializing in the washing of the dead prepare as many as 30 bodies for burial a day, as Najaf is regarded as one of the holiest sites to be buried in Iraq. The greater majority of war casualties were brought here to be laid to rest.
