It sort of looks like the doctors might have "modified" the wounds...I mean that looks like they cut chunks of his skin. But maybe a really deep swipe of a knife across the skin can cause the skin to pull away in either direction. Either way, OUCH!

You may be right, from another thread I learned that doctors will cut the skin of people who are severely burned.

I think we read the same thread about the burns. That's where I got my little theory  Makes sense for burns but I still don't know what the purpose here would be. |

In this case I would suggest the cuts are deep enough for the skin to draw away. I once suffered a long deep stab wound on my arm (nothing sinister; a work accident) and the same thing happened.
