does that mean he survived? or is it common practice to take x-ray pictures of corpses with something stuck into them?

Not sure, they may have taken that x-ray while trying to save him.. lots of scenarios

it might be, but notice the electrodes stuck on his chest... looks like they tried to save him

EKG electrodes and they're still attached to a machine. Something of that nature is survivable as long as the blade doesn't make contact with important goodies.

Something of that nature is survivable as long as the blade doesn't make contact with important goodies.
